When conventional cutting methods reach their limits or their use does not produce satisfactory results, then waterjet cutting is the optimal solution!
Waterjet cutting works solely with the energy of the water. Water droplets are accelerated to almost 1,000 m/s and thus cut through materials from paper to steel. Water jet cutting systems, such as those of the HAFSTONE, work with a pressure of up to 3,700 bar and can therefore make absolutely precise water jet cuts.
Waterjet cutting is always preferred when it comes to cutting through a material as precisely as possible. Heat-sensitive materials in particular can only be cut through to a limited extent with thermal processes such as laser cutting, flame cutting or plasma fusion cutting without causing changes in the material that make post-processing necessary. So, this is the ideal application for waterjet cutting marble. In addition, compared to laser cutting or milling, water jet cutting is more environmentally friendly and, above all, more cost-saving, as it does not require any additives and leaves clean cut edges. Time-consuming and costly post-processing is therefore no longer necessary.
Waterjet Marble Cutting – How it Works
With waterjet marble cutting, water is fed through a nozzle under high pressure, which converts the pressure into speed and applies it to the surface of the material with the greatest precision. The water jet separates microscopically fine particles from the surface of the workpiece. This prevents expansion of the workpiece, as would occur with heat from the use of a milling machine or laser. Additional material is also removed by the shearing forces of the water flowing off the workpiece.
Waterjet cutting on hard and brittle materials such as ceramics or marble works as follows: When the waterjet hits the material, the water pressure causes microcracks to form on the surface of the material, which spread across the surface and thus detach particles.
Water jet cutting with abrasive
If harder or particularly thick materials are to be cut, an abrasive is added. This abrasive is added in an additional chamber in the cutting head. The high speed with which the water jet is pressed out of the cutting head creates a negative pressure there, which sucks the abrasive into the mixing chamber and mixes it with the water there. This mixture is then accelerated through the abrasive nozzle and applied to the material with great precision. The use of an abrasive significantly increases the cutting power during waterjet cutting: Materials such as steel, stone, armored glass, graphite, marble, concrete, glass and titanium can also be cut using waterjet cutting. Garnet or olive sand is used as an abrasive. The possible uses of water jet cutting are practically endless.
The advantages of waterjet cutting service
When processing with the water jet cutting machine in UAE, almost no holding devices are required for the parts to be processed. This prevents possible deformations on the workpiece surface.
Due to the narrow cutting gap of the water jet, the material can be optimally utilized and there is less waste.
- Increased productivity, faster cutting and high-quality parts
- Minimal kerf for the most precise details and artistic patterns
- Saving of raw material – less waste
- Low running costs – water jet nozzles and abrasive focusing nozzles need to be replaced occasionally
- Omnidirectional cutting even on tight inside corners
- Extensive clamping of the workpiece is not necessary, minimal lateral and vertical force
- Only one cutting pass is necessary, depending on the material thickness
- Net or near-net cropping with little or no manual post-processing required
- Reduced tool costs, light and flexible tools
